Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How often would I come to therapy? How long would therapy last?

A: That depends on your reasons for coming to therapy. I don't want to rush the therapeutic process, but I also don't want to keep you in therapy longer than you need or want. Some clients come every week for awhile, and then taper off. Some clients require short term therapy because their issues require only a few new skills that are relatively easy to learn and implement.

Q: What prepared you to be able to understand all the points of view which you encounter in your practice?

A: Not only did I earn a Masters Degree in Counselling Psychology, I have over 20 years of experience in educational settings as a teacher, school counsellor, and assistant principal in the Leduc area.

Q: What other life experiences have you had which will help you relate to my concerns?

A: I have been married for over 35 years and have three adults sons so I I understand family dynamics in a very real, practical sense.

Q: Are there issues that you don't treat?

A: Yes; I limit my practice to the areas in which I have the skills to work with confidence; I refer everything else to experts in other areas. I don't treat schizophrenia, psychoses characterized by delusions or hallucinations, paranoia, substance abuse, eating disorders that have become a medical concern, or gambling addictions.

Q: What ages do you work with?

A: Given my longstanding experience in the education field, I am comfortable working with youth from age 10 and older and at the other end of the spectrum, I have enjoyed clients who were well into their 80's!
