Are you easily triggered?

Do you have trouble with setting healthy boundaries?

Are you and your partner locked in endless looping fights?

Do you have this nagging sense of never being good enough? Unloveable?

Do you feel anxious and alone?

Do you tend to shut down when you are facing conflict?

I am trained in several therapeutic methods, but EMDR has been a GAME CHANGER for my clients! EMDR is an evidence based practice backed by over 30 years of research. The EMDR approach is a gentle and very efficient way to get at the roots of anxiety, depression, anger issues, and so much more. Targets are chosen based on whatever is most troubling to you in your life right now.

This therapy is about understanding how fairly common things from your past  can trigger you in the present. Things like feeling pressured to perform well in school or sports in order to get parental approval. Things like having good parents who provided everything you needed but were so busy that you felt unimportant and alone a lot. This approach takes into account things such as:

- not feeling loved and accepted for exactly who you were

- not feeling that you were important and worthy of being noticed, big feelings and all

-not having an adult to talk to who really understood you and had time for you

-feeling disconnected and misunderstood by everyone

It's pretty typical for people to say that they had a pretty good childhood for the most part and that they just need to "adult" up now. That sounds like good advice, however, that's just not how our ultra-protective brains work. We have the capacity to store painful childhood moments with all of the overwhelming body sensations and negative beliefs about ourselves that were happening in that moment. Years later when we experience something that reminds us of that stored memory, we are triggered. We might explode with anger, feel small and alone, or want to run and hide. We might feel that we are unloveable, that we will always be alone, or that we are not good enough.

Maybe you have no idea why you are feeling such overwhelming anxiety. Your heart may be heavy with  depression. Perhaps you are exhausted with the demands of work and parenting. Struggling to make your relationship work.

Maybe you feel disconnected from others. From yourself. You aren't where you thought you would be by now. A lack of fulfillment. You imagine this person you want to be  and this life you want to live but there's something getting in the way. You want to get "unstuck", to move forward. You are ready to harness your strength and heal.

This therapy is not just for people who have experienced huge traumas like accidents or assaults. This therapy is not just for those who for have a childhood marred by physical, verbal or sexual abuse or for those whose childhood homes were scarred with domestic violence, fighting and divorce. This therapy is not just for those who dealt with parents who struggled with substance abuse and/or mental illness. This is for all of us who had well intentioned, human parents who missed the mark sometimes. For more in-depth information, click on the "What is EMDR tab above".

I offer traditional EMDR in 90 minute sessions and also provide the opportunity for Accelerated EMDR. Accelerated EMDR consists of extended therapy sessions often lasting 3-4 hours (with breaks as needed). For a deep re-set, some clients book a couple of days in a row. Although that might sound like a lot, my clients report feeling very positive about going in-depth and working through things with time for  closure and reflection afterwards. Much more can be accomplished during extended sessions, and a condensed time frame can make coming to therapy more convenient for busy professionals and parents.

Whether you choose weekly or Accelerated EMDR, this approach is driven by what YOU want to be different. Let's connect and create hope for your future!
